A robot was recently sent to 4C Robotics & Repair for repair and refurbishment. During our initial inspection, we found the J6 motor faulting.
As we investigated further, we discovered the real problem:
🔧 The J6 grease cavity had been overfilled/blown out, allowing grease to migrate into the motor assembly. The contamination ultimately contributed to motor failure.
This is exactly why proper robot preventative maintenance matters.
More grease does NOT mean better maintenance.
Industrial robots have specific lubrication procedures, grease quantities, locations, and service requirements. Improper greasing can damage seals, create excessive pressure, contaminate components, and turn what should have been routine maintenance into an expensive repair.
The frustrating part? This failure could have been avoided.
At 4C Robotics & Repair, we don’t believe a PM should simply consist of pumping grease into a robot and checking a box. A proper PM requires understanding the equipment, following the correct procedures, inspecting for developing problems, and documenting what was found.
✅ Proper procedures
✅ Correct grease and quantities
✅ Thorough inspection
✅ Experienced robot technicians
✅ Problems identified BEFORE they become failures
A bad PM can cost you far more than a professional PM ever will.
Protect your robots. Protect your production. And make sure your preventative maintenance is actually preventing failures.
